This coming season will again see the “Bulldogs” competing for honours in Division 2 of the Sussex Sunday Youth League having finished in a solid mid-table position last season for the second year running. With only minor changes being made to what is now a settled and established squad of talented players we are confident we can make the move to the next level and push for promotion to Division 1. The wide open spaces and excellent playing surface of our new home pitch at Sheepsetting Lane will support the coach’s belief that football is a game that should be played on the floor! In addition to the league, the team will be pushing for honours in cup competitions and will hopefully build on the success of last year’s County Cup competition when we reached the last 8 before losing out to the eventual finalists.
In addition to matches each Sunday where we travel as far afield as Shoreham, Burgess Hill and Crawley; the squad trains every Thursday evening at Sheepsetting Lane and under lights on the all weather surface at Heathfield Community College during the winter months. The training is primarily focussed on continually developing the passing and fluid style of play that the squad aspires to play whilst also building fitness levels, enhancing individual skills and increasing tactical awareness and understanding both on an individual and team level.
With pre-season training already commenced in early August, our season proper starts on 11th September with a league opener away to ASC Strikers. Finally and by no means least I would like to express mine and the teams gratitude to our two sponsors, Broad Oak Tree Consultants who have funded the team’s match kit and waterproof jackets since they were Under 8’s; and new for last year, Intersport of Lewes for supplying training kit for all the squad.
