13 July 10 - 11:37AGM

Hi All

Quick reminder that it is the AGM tomorrow night. This will take place at the clubhouse at 7.30pm. I have attached an agenda for your information.

A few notes :

1. The Committee members that will be standing again for re-election

for a further season are : Sarah Marsh (Chairman), Vicki Pickering (Secretary), Naomi Laddiman (Treasurer) and Debbie Abbott (Child Welfare

Officer) ...these are the elected positions and subject to proposal and vote. The fifth elected position is that of Vice Chairman for which we currently have no proposed names.

The Vice Chairman's role is one of 5 elected positions on the committee and therefore is constitutionally required for us to continue to operate as Broad Oak & Horam football club. Therefore, we NEED someone to step up and take this role on.

2. If you would like to stand for any of the elected roles then

please notify Vicki Pickering, Club Secretary or myself of your intention.

3. If you would like to stand for any of the appointed posts, either

on the committee or as one of the officers of the club ...then please notify Vicki Pickering or myself.

4. I will assume that each of the squads will be represented by at

least one person, either by their manager or by a nominated representative. But more are welcome of course!

5. I also assume that you will have let all your parents know that

the AGM is tomorrow night but if you haven't done so could you please send a quick email out to let them know - it's a constitutional thing!

Everyone should at least be aware of, and have the opportunity to be a part of, the AGM. Everyone is welcome to come along.

6. Please forward any apologies that you have to Vicki Pickering.

23 June 10 - 15:452nd and 3rd July End of Under 10's season celebrations

Dear Fan Club,

There is a slight change of plan now re Friday 2nd July, the swimming is still on at Cross-In-Hand School at 6.30pm until 8.30pm for all those wishing to have a dip (children that is), instead of following this with a BBQ in the school field, we will just be swimming only as the timings are a bit later than I first thought, for the younger children especially  BUT.....

Alex Sorokin (Jake's Mum), has very kindly offered to host our end of season BBQ at her house on Saturday 3rd July from 11am, for all the under 10's and families. Alex, Jake and Issac live at Ghyll Rise, Ghyll Road (just down from the Cross-in Hand School on the left after the Millennium Park). To help with congestion, I would suggest that those driving please park in Mill Road car park and walk down to the house. Food will be provided for all the players but there will be a small charge for everyone else to help out with the costs. Please feel free to bring drinks & can's etc.

This will mark the end of the Under 10's season in terms of training and matches. Pre-training dates for next season will follow once the teams have been arranged/sorted out.

Please let me know how many people will be coming to the swimming if you have not already done so and now the numbers for the BBQ, so that I can ensure enough food is purchased!

Many thanks and C'Mon England!!

23 June 10 - 11:47Spartans Urgent re Friday 25th June

Dear Fan Club,

As you are aware our team The Spartans won the league this year and we have had a few problems with this achievement being recognised by the League! We have now been told that we are getting 'A Single Team entry winners award ', which will be presented on Friday 25th June at the Civic Centre in Uckfield. As the League have now recognised our achievement, we would like to go as a team together to collect this with all the players that have helped us throughout the season to receive the accolade that we deserve.

We would like as many of the team as possible to join us at the Civic Centre on Friday Eve at 7.15pm, wearing smart trousers and Broad Oak shirts and the dark blue training tracksuit tops (the zip up ones). We appreciate that this is very short notice but we would like everyone there if possible, to mark and seal our fantastic achievement this year.

Any problems please let me know.

Many thanks

17 June 10 - 19:02Presentation Eve and dates for diaries

Dear Fan Club,

It's that time of year again - presentation night at Kings Church in Eastbourne Thursday 8th July time still to be confirmed but probably from 6pm ish- A new venue this year which is lovely I hear!

This year as we are trying are hardest to raise funds for the drainage at Horam there will be a ticketing system

a. to raise funds to pay for the event and

b. to gauge numbers for the event

Each age group will go up on the stage with lots of photo's to view from our year as under 10's

Our age group will be presenting three trophies to members of our squads for Players Player - (votes are now all in thank you), Most Improved Player and Player of the Year, the children chosen will go up on stage and have these presented by our Chair Lady and Manager's. All the other age groups will also be up on stage collecting their awards. Afterwards there is also a special team award which will be presented and an award for Club Person of the year.

We would like the children to all wear smart trousers and shirts to look the business when we all go up on stage!

Tickets will be available from the coaches from Sat 26th June at a cost of £1.00 per adult and 50p for children this will also include the players.

Please can you let me have an idea at this stage of how many tickets you would like so I can get enough for all to enjoy. Please let me know by e-mail and i'll let the relevant Managers have your numbers nearer the time.

This is a great event for the club and it would be fantastic if we could get as many of our squad there as possible!

Just another note for the diary whilst I'm here, fun swim at Cross-In-Hand School on Friday 2nd July from 6.30pm until 8.30pm, the players usually swim first and then any siblings are welcome to join in. Again please let me have numbers for this so I can let the school know for Health and Safety reasons!!

Have fun at training on Saturday, think of me working away!! and good luck to the team going to the Ringmer Tourni on Sunday, -make sure you take some spending money as they have a freshly made doughnut stand which is rather popular and they serve the best doughnuts ever!!

Many thanks

15 June 10 - 10:38Trojans match report B'Oak Tourni

And Now The End Is Near...

With the summer holidays approaching and the annual end of season Broad Oak & Horam tournament bringing the football season to a close, the Trojans concluded their campaign in fine style.

Our day started with a very early kick off and a very tired and weary manager who had the day before spent 14 hours cooking samosas, it seemed that the lethargy had transcended to the team for their first match against Uckfield.

Within the first 4 minutes we were 2-0 down, lack of concentration in the back, but by half time with a slight adjustment we went into the interval one goal down. All hopes of snatching a draw faded when a third was conceded and like the majority of the season we lost our opening game. We could only approve as the day progressed.

Both the next two matches ended 0-0; the battling qualities beginning to show through. With some excellent goalkeeping from Robert, with a lot of help from the woodwork and stout defending from the whole team we entered the second half of the tournament with 2 points from 9. Robert take a bow.

Now normally, this tally would have a negative effect on any team but not with the Trojans who with growing confidence and with the next game following straight on stood up to the challenge for the
bragging rights trophy; match 4 versus Broad Oaks Vikings.... All of a sudden the whole squad wanted to play, players wanting to play out of position just so they can beat their mates.

The tension was hot amongst the parents, jostling for the best seats and for the next 15 minutes there were no friends along the sidelines, both coaches shook hands and the match commenced. For a moment it felt like the whole world had stopped to observe 12 boys who at any other time are all best of friends but not now, this was, as far as they were concerned, the final against the enemy.

As expected the first half was tightly contested, with the Trojans bossing midfield and having the better of chances but not getting past the Viking defence. My boys didn
t want the half to end, refreshments were not required and the second half was under way. And then midway through the half a break down the left resulted in a corner. Ollies fine delivery fizzed across the face of the goal with Callum stabbing it home; 1-0. All hysteria broke and with the clock ticking down and with the expected onslaught contained the Trojans had picked up all three points. As far as the boys were concerned the final had been played and they could go home happy, but we still had three matches to play.

This result had such a positive effect that the boys then went on to win the next two matches 2-1 and 1-0.

The boys now were moving the ball round the park and the rewards came when Luke stole the ball, pushed it to Callum whose shot was parried by the goalkeeper straight to George and it rolled off his tummy. The second came from a typical Callum run, shrugging past a couple of players and smashed the ball into the back of the net. We expected a response so to tighten up Connor and Louis came on and even though Wealden scored we held on. There was great work by the whole team with Aaron, Josh and Tyler putting in a good shift. We started to feel that we could get to the semi finals and all the signs were there especially when we read in the tournament programme that the top 4 teams would qualify

Our next match against Burwash saw both teams go for it but the Trojans held strong with our big tall striker lashing the ball across the goal line with Ollie pushing the ball across the line. The team held it together until the final whistle, 1-0, what a day so far with one match to go against Crowborough.

The final match pitted 2nd against 3rd. We all thought we had made it to the semi finals and a win would see us finish second. A similar pattern as the last match saw us start under pressure and hit them on the break, there was only one goal in it and unfortunately, it fell to Crowborough with a minute from time. It was an unfortunate goal as a break from their left wasn
t cleared even though numerous chances were there and like some of the goals conceded this season it was a scrappy goal. The boys battled and battled to get the equaliser to no avail. We were not too overly concerned as we thought we had qualified to the semi finals only to be told that our own tournament officials had made a printing error and that we missed out by one point and only the top two went through.

So our final match together as the Trojans finished in some confusion. The boys were distraught to hear the news but they had played a full part in the group matches against some very strong teams finishing third to the eventual finalists. I proudly shook their hands.

The Trojans were a bunch of guys who at the beginning of the season had never played together; some were raw, some inexperienced, nearly all lacking football knowledge, there were those who couldn
t kick the ball properly, some who hadnt played football before, and a keeper who had never worn a pair of keepers gloves!

We have had heroes and villains: players who have shown silky skills and deft passing, players with pace, players who have man marked like a rash, players who have smashed goals in from every angle, players who have had the stretchers waiting by the side but have battled on, players who have singularly changed a game and inevitably there have been some tears and lots of laughter along the way.

The greatest sense of achievement has been the progression that they have all made and even though I have been hard on them all and shouted till I have gone hoarse it has been an absolute pleasure to teach and work with this group.

A personal tribute:

I am proud to have coached you and to have shared this journey with you. I want to wish everyone one of you all the best for the next season and hope that you continue improving and learning.
Remember, listen to your coaches; go to bed early, eat well, forget girls for now and enjoy the beautiful game.

And if anyone one of you makes it as a professional footballer don
t forget to mention me when you write your memoirs.

A personal thank you to each and one of you, Luke, Robert, Joshua, Tiger, Tyler, Haffers, Connor, Louis, Ollie, Callum and Aaron, thank you Trojans.

Del
