05 December 11 - 17:53Training

We have now completed the first half of the season and we are very pleased with the progress of the whole squad.

We will now be training for the next three weeks (3rd, 10th and 17th Dec) at Horam Rec. We ask you to try and get to the training area for 9.45am so we can get the guys warmed up for 10. We have noticed that our start time has gradually been pushed back after 10 with some players arriving after that. The finish time is currently 11. 30am. We propose to move this back to11.45am after the Christmas break, they are all getting bigger and stronger and i'm sure you will agree the extra time will be good for them.No Training 24th and 31st Dec.

Training to start up again 7th January.

Many Thanks

Neil, Richard & Ross.

20 October 11 - 09:21Match Reports - v Uckfield 15-10-2011

The late late Hurricane show! Saturday proves the point you have to play for 90 minutes or 20 mins in our case and we did and got what we deserved.

Hurricanes 4 Uckfield Jets 3

The Hurricanes were at full strength for the first time this season and playing with the slope we still made a slowish start. It took a couple of minutes to get going but with Man of the match from the previous match Archie  looking sharp we soon looked threatening. It was the aforementioned player who gave us a half time advantage with two goals in the space of a minute the first was a good finish inside the box, the second was a more speculative effort from distance that found the bottom corner.

We were caught cold from the get go second half with Uckfield scoring two goals in the first minute. We then lost Dan with a nock which meant added to kicking up hill we were up against it. Uckfield quickly added a third, but with Henk recovering from a shell shock start in goal and the reintroduction of Archie we started regain a foothold in the game. We stopped their onslaught but still found it hard to threaten the goal even though we played some decent stuff. With time running out the result looked inevitable until a now full of confidence Henk repelling all cleared long. The clearance alluded all bar Harry playing on the last defender who had the confidence to run clear and finish smartly. From the restart with good work in midfield Archie was released down the left who went past his marker and put in a smart centre only for Harry to fail to put the finishing touch to the move of the match (any match). Harry did not have to wait long to make amends running clear for a second time and with an accomplished finish sealed the win.

Man of the Match   Harry (match winning brace)

Hurricanes 1  Uckfield Rockets 1

It was nice to see that the slight change to our set up bedding in, the addition of wing backs aimed at giving us more width encouraging us to move the ball quicker. So well done to Jake, Louie, Codie Marcus and Elliot I think it worked well.

This match turned out to be a slightly bad tempered affair which is a little strange as we are U8’s and not quite Champions League yet. I will not document the incidents but just say we had fouls, handballs and penalty’s resulting with the Hurricanes finding themselves one down at the change of ends.

I was very proud of my players they all battled well with big games from Jack and Dan in midfield. As with the first game time was running out and Uckfield calling for the final whistle. Time was just about up when Elliot pounced on a ball in touch and took a quick long throw catching the opposition out. Elliots long throws had been an asset all morning and on this occasion he released Jack who kept his cool not for the first time in this match to bury the ball in the back of the net resulting in the team manager punching the air.

Man of the Match  Jack (Mr Cool)

Spitfires 3  Uckfield Rockets 1

The boys lined up down the slope in the first half, which seemed to help as most of the football was played in Uckfields half. It was nice to see that the players had listened and were learning things from training as in large spells we showed really good movement and passing football.

On several occasions, encouraging the boys to use the width of the pitch, we passed the ball out wide which led to several fine crosses into the box from James, Samuel and Alex. Both James and Sam missed opportunities from great crosses into the penalty area, and the Uckfield keeper completed several excellent saves to keep Uckfield in the game. Eventually Lucas scored from a good cross from Samuel from the right, and Will completed a well taken goal giving us a deserved 2-0 lead at half time.

The second half was more even as we played up the slope, however we still had more than a fair share of the play with some excellent passing. Alex Kerr scored a well taken goal early in the second half again from some good quick passing. Both Daniel and Zak were very well organised in defence, Daniel passing excellent quick balls up the line from short goal kicks. This was  backed-up by some solid keeping from both Ethan & Will. Will replaced Ethan at half time due to an injury Ethan had received making a great save late in the first half. Ryan and Alex Edwards were very solid in midfield making good tackles, receiving the ball to feet, and playing quick, simple passes.

James’s movement, passing and all round contribution gave him the man of the match award.

Man of the Match James  ( obviously had 3 shredded wheat for breakfast! )

.

Spitfires 1  Uckfield Jets 0

Following the excellent football played in the first match, the coaches called for more of the same in the second game and were not disappointed. Zak replaced Ethan in goal, with Daniel and Ryan in defence, James, Will and Lucas in midfield and Sam up top.  As in the previous game, the boys showed more awareness of each other and passed the ball around well.  They created a number of scoring opportunities, requiring the Uckfield goalkeeper to make some good saves.

James eventually made the breakthrough scoring what would prove to be the only goal of the match.  In the second half, Alex K, Alex E and Ethan came on, and with the defence now marshalled by Will remaining tight, most of the football was played in the Uckfield half.  Not being able to find a second decisive goal resulted in a nervous last few minutes but the team kept their shape and discipline to finish up worthy winners.

Man of the Match:  Lucas (becoming a key player in the team)
