26 January 10 - 19:59Broad Oak V Dynamo Hastings
After the fiasco of getting to Hastings and going to the wrong entrance. We followed in convoy down a rather rough track to reach the playing field behind the school. We all got there minus a few a stragglers that we had to go back and collect. We finally started the game at approximately 10.40a.m. it was a cold Sunday morning but the boys were in good spirits considering that we had not played a match since before Christmas. The Parents were on fine form as well. The game started well with both teams having several attempts on goal but no one scoring until the stalemate was broken by Dynamo scoring a goal followed by another leaving the score at half time 2 - 0 to Dynamo. The first half of the match was however not without its dramas we had a couple of players injured. First to go down was Zack when he got studded on his ankle. He soon got back up on his feet and was able to play again, but we had another injury this one a bit more serious ending up with a trip to A & E for Connor Hunnisett with a knee injury. (Hope you recover soon Connor ). The boys certainly kept our very own Nurse Julie busy (Sorry Julie please don’t take offence, it was meant as a compliment.)In the second half we managed to get some momentum back into our game and we came back with a goal scored by Kai and then another by Kai. A goal scored by Zack and a goal scored by Cameron. The final goal was scored by Spencer which was a penalty. Sorry Spencer to mention this as you already had some stick it was One out of Two but it was a great save by the goalie as he saved your shot then it rebounded and we shot again but it was saved again. Well done for getting the 2nd Penalty . The final score ended up at 5 – 2 to us after a shaky start we came back with a win. Well done boys . I apologise for the vague blog but was not prepared for doing a write up but got talked into it. ( I also missed bits of the game) I Know excuses excuses.

21 October 09 - 19:38Broad Oak V Glenco Cup
BROAD OAK V GLENCO ROTHER CUPSUNDAY 18th October, 2009Today see us being drawn in the cup against Glenco who we only played a week ago. We hoped that last weeks win was to be repeated. We Kicked Off the Game at 10.30a.m. with just enough Players to make a team as some of the team were ill or injured. We had to draft in our substitute player Cameron Christie so that we would have a sub. The game started well with us getting possession and in the opening minutes Kai had a shot at goal but was saved by the Keeper. However we kept up the pressure and Lewis had another shot at the goal but it was not to be. Glenco then gained possession of the ball and took a shot at the Goal but Sam made a great save. We then gained possession again with another couple of attempts at the goal but we could not seem to put it in the net. It took another couple of minutes before we got ourselves together and the dead lock was broken by a goal at 10.38 scored by Kai that Ieuan had set up but rebounded off the keeper. We then put another Goal in the net at 10.40 where George crossed the ball over the keeper lost the ball and Cameron Grant finished it. Glenco then gained control of the game and scored at 10.44 this was down to our poor defence who seem to just loose the line for a few minutes. However we were quick to gain control again when Lewis took another shot but rebounded off the Crossbar and a joint effort by Cameron Grant and Ieuan meant we scored another Goal at 10.45 ( I was later informed that this was in fact a goal scored by Cameron) Sorry lapse of concentration. Glenco were awarded a throw deep in our half which would have been another Goal if it wasn’t for Connor in defence as it bounced over two of our players head but was headed away by Connor. For several more minutes we gained control of the game and had several more shots at the goal but we either missed or were saved by the keeper. Goal no 4 came when we were awarded a corner at 10.57a.m. Lewis took the corner and passed to George who scored an excellent goal nice team work. Goal No 5 came a couple of minutes later at 11.03 when Cameron Grant scored this was again down to great team work and a nice set up by George. The Half time whistle went . Score so far 5 -1 to us.2nd Half Started at 11.10 a.m.
According to Kevin who stepped in for me as The Tuck Shop needed help. We became a bit sloppy and Glenco came back to take a shot on Goal but missed. We had some more good passing by George to Kai and had another shot on Goal but we missed. At 11.17 Toby Came off and Cameron Christie came on. Play was stopped at 11.18 as a Glenco player went down injured. At 11.22a.m. a free kick by Cam passed to Lewis but we hit the Cross Bar. At 11.23 we were awarded a corner taken by Lewis but good defence work and the keeper meant we were denied a goal . We had some Great passing and play by our Midfielders Cameron Grant, Ieaun, Cameron Christie and Kai but unfortunately a goal was not scored on this occasion. More good play this time by Cameron Christie, Ieaun, Cameron Grant where a shot was taken by Cameron Grant but it rebounded off the post but Kai put it safetly in the net making this Goal No 6 at 11.34. Another attack came from Glenco but good work from Connor Clevett kept them out of our half when he kicked the ball up to the other end of the Pitch where Kai took control and scored goal No 7 at 11.43. This was the final score 7 – 1. A great result and after our rocky start in the first few minutes and a rocky patch after half time a well deserved result. Man of the Match was awarded to Cameron Grant.

BROAD OAK THINDER 6 V GLENCO 0
Sunday 11th October 2009
A BEAUIFUL GAME
Match report by a Novice Bird!
It was a chilly Sunday morning at the Tower Rec Stadium. The home supporters, high up in the stands, eagerly awaited play to begin to see whether Thunder would come out with a completely different attitude, following the previous weeks performance.
Within the first minute of kick off home fans were not disappointed. Thunder went 1-0 up thanks to Kai nicely setting up Cammy who comfortably with precision put the ball in the back of the net. Broad Oak began controlling the game and confidence amongst the squad grew with every minute that passed. Goals 2 and 3 came from the back. Quick thinking Sam booted the ball forward, after a back pass from his Captain, which was nicely taken by Kai who made no mistake to put it past the keeper. No 3 again begin with a hardy kick from Sam up to Kai for his goal no 2. Was this going to another hat-trick day?
After the half time break Thunder continued pressing and controlling the game. Ieuan broke free to run the length of the pitch but could only hit the top of the bar. Pressure mounted. Cammy and George linked and passed well with Zack, Lewis, Ieuan and Connor H all going close. Fantastic control by Lewis brought him just desserts with Goal Number 4 and Ieaun's persistence paid off with Goal No 5. Chances continued for the home side but they couldn't convert until a mistake by the Glenco defender in the area, caught Johnny who gallantly stepped up to score goal No 6.
This was a highly spirited team effort from every player of the the Thunder squad and a well deserved performance to earn Connor H the 'Man of Match' accolade.
Well Done Boys

12 October 09 - 19:23Broad Oak V Hangleton (Cup Game)
4th October 2009, Broad Oak United V Hangleton Youth U13’sPost Match Analysis K.O. 10:30 Tower Recreation Ground. Gate 3,008 (Broad Oak were the 8!)
The best bit about the day was the weather, clear blue sky and warm with it, could it really be October! Despite our boys playing some great football, they were outclassed from the first whistle, with Hangleton scoring a goal in the first minute, as Connor Clevett went down injured and our defence was left in tatters. The following 15 minutes saw Broad Oak fight back, with counter attacks by Hangleton Youth. We had a penalty and with some great pressure from our boys, Conner Hunnisett just struck the ball over the bar. Whilst the crowed enjoyed some great football, it was Hangleton who broke the stalemate with another goal at 15 minutes, lobbing the ball over Sam’s head! The third goal to Hangleton came 1 minute later, with the visiting side running down the right hand side from the re-start and straight through our defence, into the back of the net. Our boys did not give up the fight though, and continued to attack the visitors, with Zack scoring a great goal after 19 minutes to make it 3 - 1. Unfortunately Hangleton took exception to this, and scored 1 minute later to make it 4 - 1 Connor Hunnisett was injured after 26 minutes, but got up (eventually) and there followed another fight back by BO with Kai coming very close at 36 minutes .The end of the first half saw our team out-numbered 6:2 in our own box, only for Sam to make the save of the game to keep the score at 4 -1 going into half time. The second half saw an end-to-end game with both sides coming out fighting, although it fell to Hangleton to score the first goal of the second half after 7 minutes. Following a Hangleton own goal the match settled into the same pace as the first half, with BO putting together some great moves and good football, but outclassed by the boys from Brighton. Hangleton put another 4 goals into the net to make it 9:2 at the end of the game. Whilst the score board showed one story, our boys never put their heads down and the football they played was never reflected in the final score line. They were down, but certainly not out and looked forward to their next match.

21 September 09 - 21:21MATCH 20th SEPTEMBER 2009
BROAD OAK 11 BEXHILL O
Well what can be said about our result a lot I hope. It was a great start to the new season. This year we have moved leagues and we were all unsure as what to expect. It is only our first game and a lot can change as we all know from previous experience. For now let us concentrate and celebrate our win. The game kicked off at 12.25p.m. (with me in prime position and pen poised awaiting the action) The starting line up was Sam, Joe, Connor C, Spencer, Connor H, Kai, Ollie, George, Cameron, Zack and Lewis. Subs were Harry, Toby and Johnathan. Captain was Connor H, Linesman was Brian.
1st Half
The first few minutes set out how the game was going to be. George had a shot on goal in the first few minutes but narrowlly missed. The ball went down into our half but we quickly got it back and it was Kai's turn to have a shot on goal but he missed too. It look like it was going to continue with us taking shots on goal and missing until we composed ourselves and took more time over our shots. Then Bexhill got the ball into our half and had an attempt on goal but we defended well. A corner was then awarded to Bexhill but Joe blocked and cleared the goal area we started to re group and put pressure on the other side and a throw in was awarded to us. Connor H took the throw in and Lewis got the ball and passed to Cameron who kept the ball into the Bexhill half the defenders tried to clear the ball but didn't succeed and Kai took his opportunity and hit the ball which hit the crossbar and ricoshaded into the net. (12.36p.m.) The game went quite for a while with the opposing linesman giving offside to us on several occasions which were very suspect calls but Hay Ho that is how it goes you can't always pick who lines. (thankfully we have a good linesman) Then eventually we beat the offside with a 2nd goal scored by Zack (12.55p.m.) and another goal came shortly after with Kai scoring at (12.57p.m.). Lewis had a shot on goal which was saved but not to be outdown by his brother the previous day Cam passed it to Lewis who put the ball in the net at (1.00p.m.) followewd by Kai's hat trick at (1.02p.m.) where the half time whistle went.
2nd Half Kick Off 1.05p.m.
We started off strong with Kai going straight for goal but unfortunately he collided with the goalie which led to the ball being passed up into our half and Bexhill having a shot on goal which was saved by Sam after not having a lot to do in the first half. Bexhill kept the pressure on us for the next few minutes until Zack had a shot on goal but missed, Lewis got the ball and passed to Kai who again scored at (1.15p.m.). We were then flagged offside again where a free kick given but we cleared. The opposition players clased over the ball giviing us an opportunity to get the ball back and another goal was scored by Kai at (1.20p.m.) followed by another at (1.23p.m.) also by Kai. Connor C, Spencer and Kai came off for Harry, Toby and Johnathan by now Bexhill heads were down and we had another opportunity were Toby hit a flyer and scored at (1.25p.m.) Johnathan had the run of the pitch and shot but missed. Then he had another run on goal and scored at (1.37p.m.) Then another opportunity came and George made an excellent cross into the box and Johnathan put the ball in the net (1.40p.m.) The ref seemed to go on with the match a while longer until the final whistle went.
Man of the Match went to Kai. As a final note I woud like to add that the boys all played well and worked as a team. Well done everbody it was a team effort.

29 March 09 - 12:21APOLOGIES FOR THE DELAY
Broad Oak United V Rusthall Green Post Match Report
15th March 2009 K.O. 12:00 noon
Two things were memorable about today’s match, well three actually, the first was the weather, the best Sunday of the year so far, bright sunshine and warm with it, Ieuan & rsquo;s ridiculous lime green boots, and off course, the fact that we WON!!
The game started very well for Broad Oak, early attacks from the lads resulted in a goal from Cameron Christie as the visitors’ keeper came out to defend the goal, and Cameron past him to the right leaving him with an open goal to take the lead 1:0 after just 2 minutes.
This was followed by an attack by Rusthall with their number 17, a very big lad, blasting the ball just over the cross bar. There followed a period of attacks and counter attacks by both teams, who were very evenly matched.
After 9 minutes Ieuan took a free kick from some 20 yards with the boys picking up the ball but unfortunately could not score.
There were a number of other attacks from the boys, with shots either going just wide, or being caught by the keeper, who was certainly earning his money this morning.
After fourteen minutes the Rusthall attacks came to fruition and they broke through our defence and Sam was left defending his goal on his own, the rest of our lads left behind by the attack; Sam was forced to come out his goal to defend and the attackers lobbed the ball over his head into an open net to make it 1:1There followed a period of some ten minutes of attack after attack by Broad Oak, Cameron Christie, Cameron Grant, Conner Hunnisett, but we could not score; Rusthall also had their chances with a number of corners that we gave away too easily. With only 2minutes left of the first half, Cameron Christie worked very hard to break through a number of players in their defence, only to lose his glasses at the last moment and shoot way to the left of the goal! And so the first half ended 1:1 and it was still anyways ones game. The second half started well, this time with Captain Hunnisett striking the ball well as it glided just over the cross bar. The game then settled into a steady stride for a while, until after 38 minutes with the game being played deep in our own half, Ollie Mackenzie struck the ball well gaining 20 meters or more, and cleared all our own players and the Rusthall defence; It was then a straight race between Ieuan and the defence of Rusthall, with only one outcome, Ieuan held the ball up just outside the box, bringing their keeper out, and then struck the ball well to make it 2:1 There followed another period of end to end play, with both teams launching attacks up and down the field; It was Rusthall who eventually gained the advantage, with our defence left in tatters and an open goal, Sam could not defend by his own, and they made it 2:2 after 43 minutes. The next quarter of an hour was tense stuff with both teams looking for the winning goal, but with really nothing between them.On balance Broad Oak were the stronger side, but every time Rusthall attacked they looked very threatening and our boys had a tough time defending our goal from a persistent onslaught. With the full 60 minutes played, and the game into stoppage time, it was Broad Oak on the attack, first with Cameron Christie striking at goal, only to be saved, followed by a frantic scrap by a number of our boys and the Rusthall defence, with the ball coming back outside the box to Captain Hunnisett, who struck the ball just as he was being tackled, we held our breath as the ball sailed the 20 meters or so, into the far corner of the net to make it 3:2.90 seconds later it was all over, a great win, if not made a little more difficult than it needed to be by some lapses in concentration;I met up with the Captain after the match for a quick chat; I asked Conner how he thought the team played.“Our 2 new players, Kai Perry and Ollie Mackenzie, adapted well and played brilliantly; The lads played much better in the second half with much more shouting on the pitch, and the wings and strikers played some great runs as always”; I asked him how it felt to have scored the winning goal in extra time,I thought I was being taken out by their player, so smacked it, I thought it was going wide, but when in the back of the net, it was great.

12 March 09 - 21:33Broad Oak V Polegate
MATCH 8th March, 2009 Kick Off 10.33a.m. Broad Oak v Polegate. Before I start I would like to make my apologies as we were missing Howard this week so I am not sure how I will measure up as he seems to have a good prospective on the game. Well here goes it looked like it was going to be a great game with us winning sadly this did not happen. In the first couple of minutes we were in total control we even got into their half with a pass to Kai who ran and shot for goal unfortunately it was not to be. After this Polegate came back from their half and passed the ball well into our half and had two attempts at scoring a Goal but on both occasions were stopped by Sam. (Great Goalkeeping Sam). Another opportunity was given to Polegate when our goal was left wide open lucky for us they did not score. We went onto the attack with Lewis taking the ball from just inside our half well into their half. A bad tackle by Polegate gave us a throw in but we lost the ball and Polegate took the ball down to our half where they were awarded a Free Kick due to some bad attacking on our part. However they missed. This ended with a Corner being given to Polegate where they scored the 1st Goal at 10.44a.m. We were not quick enough to clear. Another 1 minute after they scored Polegate came on the attack again and made a shot at goal which was saved by Sam. This continued for the next 5 to 10 minutes but Sam saved another two attacks on goal one was from a throw in. We then seemed to come to life again and got the ball into their half were Cameron Grant was fouled and we were awarded a free Kick. The free kick was taken by Cameron Christie but unfortunately it was not to be as it hit the cross bar a nice try though. A corner was awarded to us but we missed it and Polegate came back fighting and ran down to our half a shot was taken at the Goal but was missed. 2nd Half In the first half of the second half we had a bit of upset between the referee and some of our players as a free Kick was awarded to Polegate because a late tackle by Cameron Christie was made. The free kick was taken and Goal number 2 was scored at 11.10a.m. as Harry tried to deflect it from the Goal area but the ball came of Harry and went in (a bad bit of luck). We came back a bit with Jimbo doing a nice kick at goal but was saved. Connor Hunnisett then took another shot on goal but sadly this was saved. We did score a goal but it was disallowed as offside. Kai made a run for the goal and took a shot but sadly it just missed. He made a great run at it but it was not to be. Another goal by Polegate at 11.31a.m. making the final score 3 – O.It is sad but we were not there today and Polegate were far the better team as they worked well and were calling and looking for the opportunity. As a Spectator said after the game the other team were good and you know what they say about children being Streetwise. Well the other team were football wise and at every opportunity they were going to the ball and not waiting for the ball to come to them like we seemed to do today.

02 March 09 - 07:40MATCH 1st March
1st March 2009, Broad Oak V Pembury U12’s Post Match analysis K.O. 10:30 Tower Rec. Gate 2,032
Whoever said, “a week is a long time in politics” should have been talking about football, ‘cause it’s been a long week of high drama both on and off the pitch. Following a low point last week, it was a completely different team that turned out this Sunday to play Pembury.
The team played the whole 60 minutes with passion and commitment, calling for the ball, talking to each other and supporting each other as a real team. They played some great football and were a real credit to themselves. Early on in the first half BO had a run of 5 throw-in’s from the right touch line, edging forward deep into Pembury’s half and on the last time the ball came out to the middle where Spencer struck it hard at goal, only to miss just left. Following a foul throw from Pembury, and referee Tim Carr demonstrating his ballet skills, BO took the throw and the lads had a great attacking line of 4 boys running up the field, Kai crossed it in from the right hand touch line and Cameron Grant smashed it into the back of the net after just 7 minutes. The great thing was there were 3 of the lads there waiting for the cross, great support and a great finish by Cammy. Following this goal there was a period of 10 minutes of full-on sustained pressure by our lads, firstly with Ieuan kicking at goal, then Pembury’s number 6, “Dodd” fouled Cameron Christie, with Cameron taking his own free kick, just going wide of the net, and then an attack by Kai just going over the cross bar. All this pressure finally paid off when Spencer scored from a BO corner after 18 minutes – great goal Spencer! Lewis was the next to take a running attack up the left 5 minutes later. Pembury finally got into our half and had their first corner after 26 minutes, but it came to nothing and a minute later we were taking another corner, with James this time making a strike which just went wide. After 29 minutes we had another free kick thanks to “Dodd” and went into half-time with a 2:0 lead, which could just as easily been much more. The second half started where the first had finished with a free kick after 31 minutes following a ‘Pembury Push’ and some nice attacking play from the boys. After 35 minutes Pembury had a corner, and following a frantic scrabble (no Kai, not that sort of scrabble!) in the box Pembury scored. Cameron Christie came off injured a minute later with Connor Clevett taking to the pitch and after 37 minutes it was Sam who got hurt defending his goal with a courageous dive at the feet of Pembury’s striker. We all held our breath – will Sam ever get up……. Yes he did, to our collective relief. The next 5 minutes saw a number of attacks by our boys, Cameron Grant, Lewis, Ieuan and Kai all in the action, then after 44 minutes Lewis made a great run down the left with support in the centre and the far right, Lewis struck at goal, only to be saved and bounced back to the right, where Ieuan had timed his run well and struck it into the back of the net to make it 3.1
There followed many more attacks by the boys, and all the time our defence was brilliant with Connor Hunnisett marshalling his troops, Joe, Oliver, James, Connor all defending brilliantly.
The next goal came from Cameron Grant after 52 minutes following a great run on the left.
Pembury were awarded a penalty after a hand ball in the box after 57 minutes and scored to make it 4.2
As the game went into extra time Pembury score after 63 minutes, following a ‘lob’ over Sam’s head to make it 4.3, which despite an agonising few extra minutes and attacks from Pembury, remained the score at full time.
After the match I spoke to captain Connor Hunnisett who had this to say:
“We knew it was going to be a hard match against Pembury and we went out there hard, all the lad’s are very happy with the result. Spencer played really well in a new position for him, and Cameron Christie played well in defence. All our strikers worked very hard”.
Broad Oak 4 Pembury 3 7 minutes Cameron Grant
18 minutes Spencer
35 minutes
44 minutes Ieuan
52 minutes Cameron Grant
57 minutes – penalty
63 minutes
Man of the Match – Spencer.
Well played Boys. Duncan and I would like to add a comment we would just like to say well done and thank you for all your help with the bag packing at Co Op and at Tesco in Hailsham. Everybody was well behaved and all feedback we received was positive.
