08 December 08 - 21:14CUP MATCHES
Hi All,
Sorry for the delay in doing the blog. It has been rather hectic. First game was a cup Game against Tonbridge B on Sunday 30th November. A lot of you thought that this game was a bit of a comedy. We started off by Tonbridge Scoring within the first few minutes. Then they were given a penalty which we thought was not called for. This bought them to 2 - O. We then came back with a goal of our own brining the score to 2 -1. And just before half time the game was stopped because we had the wrong Referee. The players were kept on the pitch for at least 10 minutes getting cold while they decided what to do. The game then re started and we only had 5 minutes before the whistle was blown for 1/2 time. We then scored again and this bought the score up to 2 all which was brilliant, we managed to hold them off with some fantastic play. It went into extra time and we were unable to hold them off as they came back strong and they scored three more goals leaving the score at 5 - 2. We should have had another Goal but it was disallowed. We also had penalty decissions go against us which were given by the ref in the 1st half but not given by our change of ref a lot of if only but the ref's decission is final. The sporting thing to do is to learn for the future at least we know if it happens again to stop the game and voice our opinions loud and clear but we were all in shock that this could carry on at a Cup Game. Next Game was Sunday 7th December against Chitchester in the Sussex Cup. After a terrible journey down we finally got the game under way at about 1/2 hour late. We went down in the first few minutes 1 - 0. The second goal was scored by the away team just before half time bringing the score to 2-0. After half time we came back with a great goal scored by Connor Hunnisett, bringing the score to 2 - 1. We had plenty of opportunities to get more goals back but we just didn't seem to able to pull it off. They scored a lucky third goal bringing the score to 3 - 1. One of the goals scored was kicked out of Sams hand but was not seen by the ref so was allowed. Unlucky boys you came alive in the second half we just needed a few more minutes to be able to pull a goal back. We are now out of the Cups but not to worry we just need to concetrate on the league games. Our next game is on Sunday 14th November against Polegate let us hope that we can win this one. It will be a hard one but we need to get a win back so everybody will be on a high for Christmas. See you all Sunday and Good Luck.
Apologies for mistakes.

25 November 08 - 21:47Sunday 23rd November 2008 – Pembury 3 Broad Oak & Horam Thunder 1
In horrendous conditions Thunder finally lost their 100% record this season with an unfortunate defeat at the hands of Pembury on Sunday morning.
The first half was an extremely close and competitive encounter, which appeared to be heading for a stalemate, until the home side broke away and took the lead a couple of minutes before the break. Whilst losing a goal so close to half time is always disappointing, the response from the boys was exactly what we have come to expect this season. We went straight up the other end of the pitch and Connor Hunnisett burst into the box, only to be brought down for a clear penalty, which was coolly converted by captain Cameron Christie, to ensure we went into half time on level terms.
Due to injuries and illness we were only able to call upon a squad of twelve players and this was to prove decisive, as further injuries to two key players meant that we had to play the entire second half with only ten men. While we were still trying to adjust to the reduced numbers we had a free kick awarded against us for a back pass, that we felt was a harsh decision, but which enabled Pembury to regain the lead. Shortly after we found ourselves further behind when Pembury took advantage of the extra man, to win possession deep in our half and finish decisively.
At this point lesser teams would have given up and conceded several more goals, but we showed great character and team spirit to continue trying to play our passing game, as well as heroic defending from the whole team, to ensure that the game remained competitive. Indeed we did a lot more than merely defending and created several chances of our own, that with a little more luck could have resulted in us rescuing a point.
We cannot emphasize enough how impressed we were with the attitude and commitment of everyone involved, (including the parents standing shivering on the touchline and an energetic performance from linesman Brian Davies!). Whilst it is always disappointing to lose, we can take great encouragement from the spirit shown, which is a vital ingredient in all successful teams.
Man of the match was awarded to Joe Beeney for a fine performance at right back.

19 November 08 - 20:09BROAD OAK V LANGTON GREEN
Sunday 16th November Broad Oak V Langton Green Sports Club.
We got off to an excellent start with a goal in the first 4minutes with Connor Hunnisett putting the ball in the net, then 6 minutes later with a brillant bit of play by the boys it got passed to Spencer Crocker who put the ball in the net. Wow what a goal!!!! excellent bit of passing and play. Our boys were having a good game, but despite all the good effort of the boys playing well for the first 20 minutes we let in a sloppy goal at 29 minutes when we seemed to go off the boil and let Langton Green in. The second half got under way and for the first 10 minutes it could have gone either way with both sides having a lot of possesion we then upped a gear and Kai Laddiman put in a great pass to Cameron Grant who put the ball in the net at 17 minutes, we then continued to put on the pressure with another goal this time with Cameron Grant passing the ball to James Woodland who scored his first goal of the season. Then 6 minutes from the end Kai Laddiman took the ball past several players and scored. The match was almost over when there was a shove in our goal area and we gave away a free kick that Langton Green put away to make the final score 5 - 2 well done to all the boys. The goal scorers were Connor Hunnisett (1), Spencer Crocker (1), Cameron Grant (1) , James Woodland (1) and Kai Laddiman (1). Man of the Match was Cameron Grant.
Next Game Sunday 23rd Away at Pembury. See you all for Training on Thursday.

13 November 08 - 20:26CUP GAME AGAINST HOVE PARK COLTS
Hi Al apologies for the last posting of this have been rather busy.
This was a game that kept us on the edge of our seats or should I say kept us on our toes as we didn't sit down. We went to Hove full of cofidence that we were going to walk away with an easy win as the team we were playing had not won a game all season.
The game was far from easy and was full of some very tense moments. We scored first the goal was scored by Kai Laddiman but was set up by Lewis Davies. Shortly after this goal we had another opportunity to score but we missed however it involved some good team work and passing by Connor Hunnisett, Connor Clevett and Lewis Davies. Hove then scored a goal because we were not alert enough and Midfield and Defence did not work together. This bought the score to 1 -1. We then scored another goal again by Kai Laddiman the ball was passed by Ollie Mackenzie. The score was now 2-1. However the game was far from over as Hove were far from defeated as they wanted the win badly. The defence needed to work hard and we put in some nice tackles. A corner was awarded to Hove and we were lucky that this was blocked by Connor Clevett. However this was not enough as Hove came back and scored a cracker of a goal bringing the score to 2 - 2. This should have been avoided but the defence did not all pull together and clear the ball from the goal area.
This is where things got very tense as we only had a few minutes to go and Hover were all over us and not going to let up making it as hard as possible for us. However we were not going to be beaten and we came back with a goal scored by Connor Hunnisett giving us a lead of 3 - 2 well done Connor, with a couple of minutes to go we were awarded a penalty. Connor Clevett was given the task of taking the penalty and he scored, well done Connor this bought the final score to 4 - 2 which was a great result. It was a hard fought result and one that we deserved. Goal Scorers were Kai (2), Connor H (1) and Connor C (1). Man of the Match this week goes to Connor Clevett.
Well played boys. Next game is a league game at home to Langton Green.
Just one final note an apology is owed to Ieuan as last week we got the number of goals scored wrong. Sorry about that Ieuan as your were the person who scored 2 Goals.

04 November 08 - 20:43CUP GAME Sunday 2nd November
BROAD OAK 7 RINGMER ROVERS 1
Another great game was had after a two week break Thunder returned on fighting form with an encouraging performance against Ringmer in the first round of the Knockout cup. Even though we have played Ringmer before it was still a very good and well matched game for the first fifteen minutes as plenty of possession was had by both teams, without creating many chnaces. When the breakthrough came it was from a well worked team move. Started by Lewis Davies winning possession in his own half and finding Kai Laddiman, who opened up the opposition defence with a fine pass to Cameron Grant who scored with a neat finish in the bottom corner.
Then followed three further goals before half time, Ieuan Handley continued his excellent scoring from another well taken goal, top scorer Kai Laddiman adding to his tally and a second for Cameron Grant, with Spencer Crocker showing excellent control and vision in the build up to play.
The second half saw the same good play with the boys working together as a team and working in a tight unit to create more chances for Goals, with the defence unit of Ollie Goodhew, Joe Beeney, Connor Clevett, James Woodland and Harry French stopping any threat of a breakaway. The central midfield pairing of Cameron Christie and Connor Hunnisett provided excellent protection to the back four as well as supporting the forwards when ever possible. On the few occasions a goal was looking likley Sam Abbott was alert to the danger and quick to react.
It was therefore inevitable that we would increase our lead, with Lewis Davies firing home from a tight angle, another Goal from Kai and a well deserved goal from Spencer Crocker. This helped ensure another Victory however we failed to secure our first clean sheet of the season, when Ringmer broke away late in the game and scored a well deserved consolation goal.
Well done boys another great team effort.
Man of the Match goes to Lewis Davies. Well done Lewis

SEE YOU ALL SUNDAY FOR ANOTHER CUP GAME. THIS TIME IN THE SUSSEX COUNTY CUP.

20 October 08 - 20:19ANOTHER WIN FOR THUNDER
Well what another great win from our boys. Well done boys you all worked together as a team. Even though we started the match thinking we are going to struggle as we were 3 players down and had to use another 2 from another age group. Well done and thank you to Bobby and Callum we appreciated your efforts and you worked well with the rest of the Team.
The game started off with us going 1- 0 down. However our boys were not going to let this beat them. We then scored a goal back bringing the score 1-1 at half time. The other team had a few chances to get one back were unable to due to some fantastic saves from Sam. We then scored 2 more goals in the second half brining the score 3 - 1 to us. Hailsham then scored another goal which was unlucky for us as the defence made up of Joe, Connor C, Jimbo and Harry were doing a fantastic job and it was luck that the other side scored as the ball bounced off the Goal Post bringing the score 3 - 2 . In the last 5 Minutes we scored again ending in a final score of 4 - 2. It was a great game and a pleasure to watch. All the team deserve a mention for a well played game so well done to all the whole squad.
The game was not without its Dramas as the match was stopped on a couple of occasions as players and spectators had a disagreement with the Referee but as we all know the Referee's decision is final. The game ended well and I am sure there was no bad feelings amongst those involed. There is only one more thing to say and that is to congrulate all the Players and name the Goal Scorers who were Ieuan (2) and Callum (2). Man of the Match goes to Sam. But I am sure that you all deserve to have this title. Watch this space for our next mentions. PLEASE NOTE JUST A REMINDER THAT THERE IS NO TRAINING ON THURSDAY. DEBBIE WILL KEEP YOU UP TO DATE WITH FURTHER DATES.
Kevin.

13 October 08 - 19:33Match 12th October
Hi All,
Well what another great win. As I overheard a couple of the boys say that this is 4 wins in a row un beaten. My first thoughts were to say don't get to sure of yourselves then I thought be quiet and let them enjoy the moment as they deserved the win. It was the best that they have played so far all season. I think that the extra training has improved the fitness levels and we are starting to work even better as a team. Keep up the good work boys. The score ended up as 7 - 1. It was nice to see us win by a big margin and not let so many goals through. The Goal Scorers this match were Kai (2), Ieuan (3) and Cameron Grant (2). Well done to Ieuan to scoring the first hat trick of the season. Man of the Match goes to Jimbo. Next Match is Sunday 19th October @ Hailsham Kick Off 10.30a.m. Meet at 9.30a.m. at Horam Village Hall.
