29 March 08 - 19:57"COLD KEEPERS"ONLY BEATEN BY...The Weather!

Not at all n-ice out there this Sunday morning (ok, no more puns - i'm snow good at them anyway....)

Our heroic "cold keepers" who started the morning with blue skies - only to encounter a blizzard within an hour of the session, coped magnificently with the failing conditions and all deserve a medal I reckon. They always say that GK's have to have a screw loose - and our gang fit the bill (Joe included!) Having had, mothers day, then Sport Relief, then rain and now snow - just what else is there to try and stop us training?

We had our first Goalkeeping Academy session on Saturday as well - with only one keeper from the 11-a-side teams showing up for some free intensive but fun coaching - a real shame. Well done to Sam Abbott (U11's) who joined us and warmed up really well before his game - and to the other 6 or 7 GK's from mini soccer who came along too. So if you know of any GK's who play 11-a-side andneed the practice, tell them about our 1st Sat of the month 9am session, and the 9am Sunday session every week - they must be absolutely perfect and receiving 1 to 1 coaching from their own managers otherwise, which i'm sure is not happening, so don't let them miss out!

As for next Sunday - Sun 13th April - THERE IS NO TRAINING IN VIEW OF THE ISLE OF WIGHT TOUR BEING ON - NONE OF THE COACHES WILL BE IN THE COUNTRY!

That's all for now - GK Academy shirts are progressing well for our 'regulars' - more to follow shortly. WATCH THIS SPACE!

11 March 08 - 11:15SHAME - NO GK ACADEMY FOR NEXT TWO WEEKS

Hi folks,

Please mark your diaries - having run uninterrupted for weeks now, the moment we launch we have two events that prevent us from training! These are the huge Sport Relief Event being run at Horam this Sunday morning (16/3) followed by Easter Day (23/3).

So the next GK Academy session will be at 9am on Sunday 30/3 - see you then!

11 March 08 - 11:07'BROAD OAK & HORAM GOALKEEPERS ACADEMY' IS NOW LIVE & KICKING!!

Hello and welcome to the Broad Oak JFC's brand new addition to the training of it's players - namely the launch of our very own Goalkeepers Academy, likely to be the only one of it's kind in the Crowborough & District Football League!

Having started with a request from one or two parents before Xmas for me to coach their kids on goalkeeping on a Sunday morning, the numbers have steadily grown to around 10-12 regulars, our highest attendance being 16, our average normally being 8 or 9 budding keepers each week! I run the sessions with three other coaches as well - Joe Murray, Clive Irwin and John Baldock, and between us we have enough GK experience and course knowledge to run very intensive, high quality, but fun training plans every Sunday for all ages of Goalkeepers - AND IT KEEPS GETTING BIGGER!

Therefore the obvious next step for the four of us was to approach the club committee to request the formal creation & launch of our very own GK Academy - for which we thank Sean Stidder & his team for their fantastic support on this initiative. The formation of our Academy means that this specialist position will get the quality coaching it needs for those boys & girls keen to improve, and that if word spreads of our launch then more & more GK's will come along to see what the fuss is all about. Young keepers will aspire to be like the older keepers - and the older one's can take their first steps into coaching too. All four coaches are planning to attend the all new Level 1 FA GK Course shortly as well.

We are also delighted to announce that we have our very own 'Official GK Academy Sponsor' - Inter Sport of Lewes & Seaford - who have agreed to pay for our very own GK Training shirts for those who attend more than 4 times - (to be returned & handed down to other GK's when too small & a new size issued.) Inter Sport can also supply you with gloves & kit at very good prices, so a huge thank you to John & Sue Baldock for their support, and we we wish them well with their new shop in Seaford.

We are also aiming to give out awards for "Save of the Day" and "Shot-Stopper of the Week" - so watch the updates on these each Sunday evening!

So all that leaves is for me to give you the lowdown on the weekly arrangements, so spread the word and catch us every Sunday (sorry - bad pun!)

Dates: Every 1st Saturday monthly & every Sunday morning weekly

Venue:  Horam Recreation Ground

Wet Weather Arrangements: CHECK THIS WEBPAGE FOR CANCELLATION - UPDATED BY 8AM EACH MORNING!!
